Framing Watercolour Without Glass
Category: Workshop/Class
Price: 25.00
Venue:
Esquimalt Recreation Centre, Fraser Street, Victoria, BC, Canada
Traditional framing of watercolours is expensive and creates issues with shipping. An alternative is to mount the completed watercolour on a wooden cradle and then finish the surface with varnish or an equivalent. The painting can then be hung without a frame (on a deep cradle) or framed like an acrylic or oil i.e., without a mat or glass. The result is attractive and it keeps costs down substantially as framing costs can be reduced.
In this demo we will go over the steps involved in fastening the watercolour to the wooden cradle, trimming the piece to match the size of the wooden panel, and protecting the surface using either cold wax, or varnish. Options for finishing the sides of the cradle will also be discussed. The result is attractive and it keeps costs down substantially as framing costs can be reduced or even eliminated. Come prepared with all your questions about the process!
